Frequently Asked Questions

Who builds your looms?  Ken builds each and every loom by hand.   The design and all patterns were created by him.  He mills all the parts (including the heddle), finishes, and tests each loom.  He has a very tiny shop that requires him to continually move equipment around and we are going to have to find him some more room very soon!

What is the heddle made of?  The heddle is milled from an industrial plastic called UHMW.  It has no toxins (actually food-safe, but we don't recommend eating on it!) and is self-lubricating.   It is very kind to your yarn, which means you can use art yarns, hand-spun singles and any number of other fibers for warping your loom.

Is the heddle heavy?   It weighs about three pounds, but weight is not important as you will not be lifting it to change your sheds.   The heddle rides on the side rails and you simply rotate it.   Once it is one the loom you will simply pull and push it as you rotate.

What is the loom frame made from?  Top quality solid red oak.

Is it hard to set up?   How much space does it take up?  The loom is very easy to assemble.   We have you-tube videos that will show you how step-by-step.  It requires no tools and can be done by anyone.   The loom occupies a space 2 ft. x 4 ft. and can be broken down completely as needed (even with a weaving project in place).

Can I weave rugs on this loom?   You can weave anything that is typically done on a rigid heddle - scarves, fabric, etc.  - but the loom is particularly suitable for rugs because it is so solidly built.

What other items do you sell?   We carry shuttles in various sizes and try to keep a stock of varied colored rug warp on hand.  Ken also builds adjustable tri-looms and can build twining looms as desired.  We also have a 12" carder in development.

Can I make payments?   Yes, we offer a lay-away plan.  The requirements are:   $200 down payment.   You tell us how many remaining payments you'd like the balance divided into - up to six payments.   When the loom is paid in full it will be shipped within 14 days of receipt of payment.   If, for some reason, payment in full is not received within six months, we will return all payments EXCEPT the original $200 payment.
